报告内容简介:Environmental sustainability and climate change are driving the need for advanced manufacturing and remanufacturing technologies across a variety of sectors, including aerospace, transportation (land and sea), infrastructure, and low-carbon energy. Surface engineering and protective coatings (SEPC) play a critical role in this context by improving the surface finish and structural integrity of metallic components. While SEPC has a long history in traditional manufacturing, it has garnered increasing interest due to advancements in additive manufacturing and remanufacturing. Surface engineering involves altering the surface and near-surface regions of base materials to enhance their mechanical or chemical properties, utilizing processes such as cold-working, carburizing, or nitriding. Protective coatings, on the other hand, involve applying extrinsic materials to surfaces to achieve integrity enhancements. The integration of these techniques may provide innovative possibilities for advanced manufacturing. Material testing and evaluation play key roles in the development and implementation of SEPC technologies. Accelerated testing and a thorough understanding of material degradation mechanisms are essential for the design and processing of structural metal alloys. This presentation will provide an overview of our recent work on SEPC and discuss their applications in various industries.
报告人简介:Dr Liu Hongfei is a Principal Scientist and a Group Leader (Surface Engineering and Protective Coating) at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*STAR, Singapore. He received his PhD degree in 2001 from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and B.E. degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1996. He held adjunct assistant professor position at the Dept. Mater. Sci. Eng. National University of Singapore (SME/NUS) during 2009-2011 and associate faculty position at Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) in 2023. His recent research interest is focused on surface engineering and protective coating of metal alloys. He has been leading research projects in the frame of Aerospace Program (A*STAR) and RIE2020 Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) Program on design, prototyping, and evaluating of advanced alloy materials with enhanced corrosion and hot corrosion resistance. He has supervised 5 Ph. D. students and mentored over 20 FYP and intern students. He has published over 220 papers in peer-reviewed journals (H-index 32). He is among the World’s top 2% scientists in the latest edition released by Stanford University in 2023. In 2016, as a co-inventor, he has licensed a technology patent to Geeplex Technologies Pte. Ltd. He is an international scientific committee member of International Conference on Advanced Surface Enhancement (INCASE). He is an editorial member of quite a few journals of materials science and engineering, e.g., Scientific Report (NPG), coatings (MDPI), etc. He is also a guest advisor of an article collection of Materials Technology (Taylor & Francis).
